Ready for a slow down (16 months)

It's almost August.  Holy cow.  The summer is almost over and we can now stop saying "She's almost 16 months" and now say she IS 16 months.  Tomorrow we will start saying "she's almost 17 months"  (at what point do you start switching to the next month?  I typically do it 2 weeks before so she has 2 weeks to just be 16 months).  This month my little bugger has just skyrocketed into full blown toddler hood (maybe I've said that every month since 12 months)-but I am for realises this time.  She has grown up so much this past month in looks and actions it's unbelievable I mean the kid says Wal-Mart (and Target) it's INSANE.

This month we had a few milestones.  Lilly moved up to the toddler room at daycare and is adjusting wonderfully to her new teachers and new friends (and even has some old friends coming up to join her soon).  We officially made the full transition to the sippy cup-no more bottles!  She's doing well but doesn't guzzle down milk from the sippy like she did from the bottle.  Girlfriend would take a few sips here and there and would be done.  I was beginning to think she didn't want it anymore and began to worry about how she would get the nutrition she needs until I saw this:

Girlfriend was fooling us.  But after a few weeks she drinks more at home and I am no longer worrying because she seems to be drinking just fine at school!

Her vocabulary is exploding.  She can pretty much say anything we ask her to and when she can't she tries.  I asked her to say Chihuahua the other day and it came out balaboo but she got points for trying.  Some of her newer words are: hop, Wal-Mart, Elmo (momo), milk, pool, shoe, boat, yes (yesh), and whenever she sees a food she loves she goes num num num-especially when she sees ice cream.  She LOVES pops (posicles) and even runs over to the freezer frantically trying to open it screaming pop.  I've resisted only giving them to her when she asks after dinner.  She doesn't like it too much when I don't oblige at 6 in the morning.

You don't say!!!
No official weight/height stats but I am thinking she's still around 23-24 lbs.  She's starting to grow out of her 4.5 shoe and can wear 5's now.  By the Fall I am guessing she will be a 5/5.5.  She's in 18 month clothes and some 24 month and even has some 2T tee shirts (I like getting them bigger because her size tend to come up more over her belly).

Some firsts this month:

Lilly had her first piggy tails!

She rode on a boat for the first time and LOVED it!

She made the transition to a sippy-we are bottle free!

She had her first ear infection-not a fun first

She's started saying "cheese" when I take her picture!

So far this month has been pretty low key.  We did have a fun 4th of July celebration and have been hanging out with family, enjoying some no-plans weekends, and avoiding the heat!  One cool thing that Lilly learned is how to play the harmonica.  She spent two days at my mom and dads and Lilly discovered the harmonica at my aunts house when they went over to swim in her pool.  She's a pro!  I think this may be proof that muisical ability is genetic!

Some things about Lilly this month:

She still loves books-this kid loves to read...still!

She loves peas-she cannot get enough.

She likes to swim-she even swims in the bath tub

Her favorite show is Doc McStuffins-we try to limit tv watching but we have it on in the mornings and she watches Doc McStuffins after her bath in the evening.  When it comes on she shouts: "Yeah!".

She loves to watch the Bunnies from our deck and she always shhhhh's you when we are 'hunting' for them.  She also says: "hop! hop!".

I told you she likes peas...but girlfirend loves herself some corn on the cob too!

She's mastered the blocks.  When we had our conferance at daycare in June one of the things we had to work on was stacking blocks-she would only knock them down.  We didn't have any plain old wooden blocks at home so I bought some and she's becoming a stacking pro-although she still enjoys knocking them down when she's finished.

She loves to color.  She's taken an interest in our dry erase board (I need to get her her own) and she always seems to come home from day care with marker and paint on her).

Lilly takes after her daddy-she loves to play music!

Lilly gives the BEST hugs!

She is such a fun little girl and I just love her smile!

She's also asserting her independance loud and clear at times.  I think the terrible twos have already begun!

And I think we may have a little hambone on our hands...perhaps reminiscent of this gem from Toddlers in Tierras? You can see some of her harmonica skills which I was trying to get on video but it really started getting good when I flipped around the screen and she could see herself!

Lilly you amaze us every day with what you are learning.  You are such a happy and adventurous kid and we have so much more fun coming our way.  We are so excited for what's in store.  How blessed are we.  Happy 16 months baby girl-feel free slow down a bit-it's getting hard to keep up.
