Sick Babe

Well it's official Lilly has now had her first real ailment.  We've had runny noses, a cough, nothing too serious until now.  My poor baby came down with a fever early Thursday morning.  She woke up at about 3am burning up.  She's been cutting some teeth recently so I figured it may be that and she fell right back to sleep so it didn't seem like something to worry too much about yet.  We kept an eye on her but I stayed home with her to make sure she was ok and if I felt that I should take her to the doctor.  She was acting completely normal other than the fever so I just chalked it up to her cutting those nasty eye teeth and molars. So after breakfast I gave her a pop to help ease her pain a bit and she seemed good to go.

She was acting like Lilly all day other than the fact she maintained between 100-101 fever all day with a few moment of relief from the pain meds.

She took a great nap and woke up happy.  I was glad she seemed to be feeling better, although I was still concerned she was still feverish and contemplated a trip to the doctors.  Again she seemed fine so I decided to wait and see until tomorrow and I started making dinner.

Right before dinner Lilly got extra snugly on the couch and ended up taking a 20 minute cat nap.  I was glad she was getting some rest.  She looked so cute snuggled up like a little burrito on the couch!

When she got up from her a late afternoon cat nap that I made the decision to go to the doctor.  I was finishing up dinner when she popped her head up off the couch.  Tommy was walking in the door and as I went to pick hr up I could just feel the heat radiating off of her body.  I handed her to Tommy so I could take her temperature and freaked when I saw the number. (Disclaimer-I did not take this picture when I took her temp.  I took it later that evening after blowing on it to see what Number I could get-made me realize that I probably need a different one because I don't think it's very accurate and I tend to have to take her temp twice since it always brings up the previous reading when you take a temp-anyone have any recs??)

I called the doctors and within the hour we were there and had been seen and had confirmation that it wasn't teeth-she had an ear infection! My poor baby!  I felt so bad for not taking her sooner but she really was acting fine and didn't seem to have anything else bothering her other than teeth.  We got some antibiotics and stocked up on some Advil and we were good to go (other than the fact that I DREAD giving Lilly medicine-wow).  But yet...it doesn't end here.

The next morning she slept until 7:45!!!  A world record.  But our happy smiley Lilly didn't wake up at 7:45am-her alter ego Lilith did.  She was awful.  Nothing would make her happy-the only thing that made her happy was snuggling with her blankie and paci on the couch watching Disney Jr.  Same on Saturday AND Sunday.  Tommy and I were at our wits end.  She was either sleeping or fussing and she would barely eat.  Something had to be wrong-what was it?  I was even to the point I was holding Lilly in front of the snack cabinet asking her what she wanted because I just wanted her to eat something.  Mother of the year award here-my kid ate 2 Cheetos and a go go squeeze in the past two days.  NOTHING was making her happy.  Both Friday and Saturday she took two, two hour naps and did the same today going to bed at 7  each night.  So far THE biggest challenge: Not knowing what is wrong with your baby and how to fix it.  I felt defeated.  And it's still not over...today she broke out in hives.  I was consulting my mom and explaining what was going on.  After doing a few Google searches we came to the conclusion we think Lilly could be allergic to penicillin.  Lovely!  Apparently  penicillin can cause stomach pains too-BINGO!   The moment little Lilith came out was exactly when we started the anti-biotic.

My poor baby.  I know Lilly is still in there somewhere!  I was very happy that Lilly happily ate her noodles and peas and even had some chicken for dinner.  After dinner and her bath she seemed better.  We are still keeping a close eye on her but no more medicine has been given and she fell asleep no problem.  I am planning on calling the doctor as soon as they open tomorrow and I am taking her in again 1. to see what the hives are all about, 2. to see if what she did have of the anti-biotic did anything to the ear infection and make sure there isn't anything else wrong with her and finally 3. to see what our other options are.  I just hope she is herself again VERY soon!
