We were doing so well having not been to the doctors since the 18 month check up and I was hoping to avoid going in for any sick visits until the 2 year well check-but we got hit again pretty hard with a bug and this time Lilly wasn't doing so well. She ended up with an ear infection and some wheezing so had to be on two antibiotic and she had to get an inhaler. I ended up catching what she had and felt awful-I understand now why she was so cranky. Both her and I took a few sick days home to recover. She still has a few tummy issues we are working on from the antibiotics but other than that she's feeling MUCH better. She did so well with her medicine and inhaler-I was so worried. I HATE holding her down to get her to take her medicine. M and M's as a bribe worked like a charm though!
The inhaler is hilarious-she actually loves it. We tell her to huff and puff like the Big Bad Wolf and it's so funny!
Since we got to visit the doctor's (twice actually) we got some stats! Lilly is now 28 lbs and 11 oz! I was surprised she wasn't 30 lbs yet. No height measurements but she is definitely growing up. She's officially in 2T sizing. Her 24 month stuff still fits depending on the cut and brand but some are too small. I even have some 3T tee shirts for her-the Disney/Sesame Street/Old Navy tees are cut so small! She is in size 5 diapers and wears now a size 6 shoe.
Speaking of diapers we are working on the potty training thing. Right now she asks to go potty but won't sit long enough to do anything usually. My mom bought her some training pants that are slightly padded that may help. She loved to wear them so far. I just need to buckle down and pick a weekend to stay home and really work on it. I think at this point it's me, not her, that isn't ready.
She's going to kill me for this one day!
Lilly right now is loving:
Books. She always has loved books but now she actually sits through longer stories and even 'reads' herself. By reading I mean she recognizes a book and has memorized some of the story or will use the pictures to come up with her own, and she will even sometimes just say the names on the characters. She even sometimes uses the voices Tommy and I do. Like when she reads "Cat in the Hat" in a low angry voice she says: "No Cat! No No!". She's loving Dr. Seuss books right now. She asks us to read "Cat in the Hat" and "Hop on Pop" almost every night. Lately she only wants Tommy to read them too-guess Daddy just does the voices better!
Her bike. We have had a few nicer days that we have been able to get out a ride. Still working on the pedal part but she can scoot!
She does not like the wind. We tried taking her out this past weekend and it was too windy-poor girl!
Her tea set. She got this a while ago for her first birthday but she's actually now playing 'tea party'. She also knows all of the words to the cute songs it plays. Lilly also keeps it classy by skipping the tea cups and 'drinks' straight from the pot!
Barney. Most people ask if this guy even is still around and he is-thank you on demand! We have a Barney CD in the car that she loves and a while ago when going through Toys R Us she spotted a barney doll that she wouldn't let go. We ended up getting it for her for Valentine's day. He sings "I love you" and it's her favorite song!
Singing. This girl loves to sing! From Barney to Tay Swift-she can learn words like that and she sings all the time. I even caught her singing Taylor Swift in the kitchen using a bubble wand as a make shift microphone. I died!
Drawing. She loves to draw. I cannot make my grocery list without her screaming for the pen and paper. Good thing she has a mama that loves to buy her crayons and markers and coloring pages! We think she may even be a lefty!
Unfortunately Lilly is super attached and LOVES her pacifier and blanket. I really want to work on transitioning from not needing her 'papi' but some days I don't know how I could live without it. In general she gets it only at nap time and bedtime but when she's at home she does have it more than at school. This is something I will definitely be working on when home for maternity leave.
This month we have celebrated a RAVEN's Superbowl win, Valentine's Day, and my birthday. It's a short month so nothing else too crazy went on but we enjoyed taking the time to celebrate those events with family and friends and we had a blast hanging out on the weekends-there were even a few forts constructed!
Lilly's accomplishments/milestones this month:
She has for a while now been able to sing the ABC's, count to 15, and she's now able to recognize her name when written. She's still a little rusty on colors though but that is something we continue to work on with her.
She is stellar at memorizing songs and has a great memory. I am shocked at some of the things she recalls. The other day laying on the couch with her she pointed to my earrings and said: "Lilly got them for you!". Sure enough they were the ones Tommy got for her to give me for Christmas. I was floored.
Her play and interaction with her toys is so fun and I think she has my large imagination. This video is a tad long but I just love how she's playing and interacting. She loves talking on mommy's phone too! Her vocabulary continues to amaze me. She is a BIG talker. She's now talking in full blown sentences and we often have little conversations-it's wonderful!
Lilly is kind and compassionate knowing when to say 'sorry', 'excuse me', 'thank you' and 'please'. She also has now started saying 'hello, how are you' and I guess because Tommy and I say it to each other she asks us 'how was work?' She is also pretty responsible and helps by putting things in the trash for us, unloading the dishwasher, and even cooking and baking. She loves to be included!
One thing I have really noticed this month is her desire to learn. She has begun asking "what's that?" when she sees or hears something she doesn't know. The other morning when the Keurig was heating up she asked me what it was was pointing to her ears (indicating what's that noise). She has a love for the ladybugs that seem to be flying around our kitchen as of late and she will even pick them up. When they fly around she doesn't take her eyes off of them-they only thing she didn't like was when one flew into her hair!
Lilly Grace, you are such a light in our lives. You continue to amaze us each and everyday and while I know I say that a lot-it's true! You are growing into one funny little lady and sometimes even a Diva...
Although you have some diva like moments you are still sweet and loving and overall you are a ham! You always know how to make me and your dad laugh. One of the best moment from this month is when you ran up to me at home and hugged my legs and said "I love you so much mommy!" and then ran over and did the same to Daddy. My heart was mush! We love you too so much Lillian Grace. I cannot believe in just a month we will be celebrating your 2nd birthday! You are going to have a blast!
Happy 23 months darling! We cannot wait to celebrate the big 2 with you in a few short weeks!
