Summer so far...

Today starts our vacation.  We will have a short 2 day staycation (the kids and I) and then Saturday we head to Ocean City, MD for a weeks vacation.  To celebrate I thought I would share how our summer has shaped up so far...

At the beginning of the summer I created a summer bucket list.  While we haven't done everything exactly on the list we have done a lot and even strayed from the list a bit-I love being spontaneous!  This has been a great summer so far!  Tommy is getting to be at the age where he goes more with the flow and enjoys doing things (if there are rocks and dirt he's happy!) and Lilly is my fearless wonder.  She knows how to have fun and I love that about her!

Weekday treats!

Snowballs WITH marshmallow-a MUST for Marylanders.  My favorite is egg custard with marshmallow.  Tommy usually gets Fireball.  Lilly likes the fun kids flavors like Little Mermaid and Barney.  Little Tommy eats some most of mine.  YUM!  We try about once a week to do some weekday fun after dinner.  Ice cream cones or popsicles at home on the deck or if we have time hit up Yogurt Mountain or the snowball stand!  Sometimes it's the little things that make the best memories!

Kilgore Falls

We went on Father's Day and we hope to go at least one more time before September.  The kids always have so much fun and there is plenty of Little Tommy's favorite things there-water, mud, dirt, and rocks!  We take a picnic and eat on a rock-it's a BLAST and free!

Other outdoor adventures

We've explored Susquehanna State Park as well as hit up some of the fun trails around us-a favorite of ours is the Ma and Pa trail!

This place brings back memories even though this was my first trip there.  Why?  Because they salvaged many of the exhibits from The Enchanted Forest.  This was a place my parents always took me and seeing the restored exhibits brought back lots of memories and I was so excited to have my children enjoy them as well!  Plus they had lots of animals and Lilly and Tommy loved petting (and chasing) the goats and chickens!

I think it's important to have fun AND learn! My parents took us one evening to a Fife and Drum event at Fort McHenry for the anniversary of the Star Spangled Banner composition-how cool is it that we live near such a cool landmark!

Picnic dinner at Friends Park-Because spontaneous things are fun!

We have been very fortunate to have had some super nice non-humid days and evenings in MD.  One particularly nice evening the kids and I packed up dinner (corn on the cob and all) and when Tommy got home we went to a nearby park, ate, and then spent some time playing and checking out the ducks and geese-Little Tommy loves just looking at the pond!

7/11 day!

On July 11th 7-11 stores give away free small Slurpee's from 11am-7pm-because why not!

Summer S'mores

My kids had a blast and Little Tommy enjoyed eating a marshmallows the size of his head!  Cheap, Easy, and FUN!

The kids had a blast and my fearless 3 year old ran to the rollercoaster and more daring rides-we could barely keep up!  Tommy wasn't as thrilled with the rides but he did a few!  I am hoping next year he will be more excited about them!  He's still young!

Finally, what summer is complete without some pool time!?

We've done a lot and the summer isn't over yet!  Looking forward to a few more adventures!
