Snow Day!

Yesterday the hubs and I gave ourselves a self-proclaimed snow day.  Towson was opening late and he was planing on working at his moms-painting, but once we were ready to go the snow continued to fall and the side roads were still a mess so we turned around and headed home to get back in pj's.  It was nice....we laid on the couch for the morning and relaxed.  We ventured out soon as the rain started to pick up a few things for dinner before it got worse (and it did!) and a few movies.  We returned home to snuggle on the couch and basically take some time to be lazy which doesn't happen too often (well for my husband at least and he deserves it!).

Lately I have been stalking food blogs for many reasons.  One is that I am in search of yummy meals that are freezable (and not crazy casserole concoctions) for when the baby arrives-I believe I have now moved on to the nesting stage!  The second reason is desserts...I've had a HUGE sweet tooth while I have been pregnant and I am searching for some new recipies to satiate my cravings.  (OK this may be a slight lie...I always have has a sweet tooth and being pregnant is just letting me use the craving excuse as a reason to not care that I ate 4 blondies in one day and loved every second of it).   In my search I was also keeping my eye out for some good slow cooker recipes and found this yummy dish for Zesty Slow Cooker Chicken BBQ.  We found that not only are slow cookers great for the busy working couple, but also for snow days!  We decided to try out the recipe.  We got to be even lazier AND have a great meal on top it!

The recipe calls for bbq sauce and I was so excited to find Sticky Fingers bbq sauce at Giant!  When we were on our baby-moon we ate at the famous Sticky Fingers in Charleston and loved it! What better way to spend a cold snow day then to bring some of the south to us.  We wanted to re-create that meal and this hit the spot ya'll!

This recipe is definitely a keeper.  I served it with baked beans and some oven roasted asparagus.  Here are a few shots of my husband pulling the chicken and the plated meal.  Please note his crazy wild hair!  He had me cracking up!!!

 I know you're jealous!

yum! :)

In baby news...
I got the results back from my gestational diabetes test and I PASSED!  I was so nervous I would have to take the 3 hour test.  For those of you who know me I don't do needles so this was a HUGE relief for me.  I felt like someone had just told me I won the lottery!  I am coming up on 33 weeks and this baby is on the move doing flips and flops all the time...maybe I am feeding him/her too much sugar.  It feels so cool to have the knee or elbow roll across your belly.  It never gets old (well maybe when it comes at 3 am but it's still pretty cool).  I've heard as the baby runs out of room the movements will slow down but that doesn't seem to be the case just yet for this little one.  The snow day had Tommy and I talking about what it's going to be like when the baby arrives.  We are getting more and more excited and KNOW how much our lives our going to change, but talking last night we STILL cannot believe that in 7 weeks we are going to have a baby!  As much as you plan and plan and think you are ready for the little one to arrive...I don't think we are really going to know what it's like until that moment arrives.  It's boggling our minds.  I continue to get even more anxious every day.  I think it's partly because we don't know if it's a boy or a girl, but also I am dying to SEE what our baby looks like!  It's going to be so wild.  I cannot freakin' wait!  We've decided to just take in every moment of our last weeks as just two as we look forward to Baby Smith's arrival.

As ready as we are, we still aren't.  There are still a few things to check off the list:
  • Re-paint the baby's room
  • Baby shower/purchase anything we still need for when the baby arrives.
  • Meet with the pediatrician (scheduled for February 2nd!!)
  • Get new tires on the civic (in case of snow on D day!)
  • Make and freeze some meals/stock up at BJ's
  • Create/finalize our birth plan
  • Pack bag for the hospital
I think that should be it...did I miss anything???

Last let me leave you with a few shots of what we woke up to this morning...it was beautiful until we Tommy tried to actually get out..hence my second snow day.  Normally I am a trooper and will venture out but the cars were getting stuck thanks to our super smart neighbors who shovel themselves out and toss the snow in the street.  Being pregnant I feel like I don't need to be worrying about getting stuck-so alas I extended my mid-week weekend for one more day.  Actually it was my husband who said to me: "You aren't going out in this" as I was getting ready for work.  Hoping this will all melt and tomorrow we will be back to some sort of normalcy.  And the best part about it... is that tomorrow is Friday!  Wahoo!
