At first we were a little frustrated with the selection. All of the Frasier furs seemed to be picked over. Until we found another patch of trees. They were all very big which is what we wanted. We found the perfectly un-perfect tree! Lilly certainly approved!
Of course we needed to get the traditional family photo in front of our un-cut tree. Our plan is always to try to do a self portrait, look like we're struggling, until some nice person offers to take it for us. Really, we could just ask to begin with but where's the fun in that?!
Our tree has been put up and we decided to decorate it in honor of the feast of Saint Nick tonight. It is stunning. Thanks to Pinterest for the tips for taking pictures of the tree. They turned out great! Of course Lilly supervised the decorating!
"That ornament doesn't go there Daddy!!!"
Speaking of Saint Nick...
Lilly put her Chuck Taylors under our mini tree last night in hopes that Saint Nicholas would stop by and bring her some treats. It's a tradition on the eve of the feast day of Saint Nicholas to put out your shoes or socks and Saint Nick will leave you candy, money, or other treats. The story of Saint Nicholas is said to be the inspiration for Santa Claus. To read more about Saint Nicholas click here.
Lilly woke up to a few things next to her shoes, since her shoes were a bit to small to fit the goodies. Saint Nick left her a new hat since it's getting colder and she won't be able to wait for Christmas to get it, a book to read about Christmas, and a tee shirt which she wore today. Thanks Saint Nicholas! Lilly must be on the nice list!
Again, another fun tradition I am excited to start with Lilly!
Hope everyone is enjoying the start of the holiday season!
(PS-I know that this time of year it's not all about the gifts and that it's just one aspect of the season. We are looking forward to teaching Lilly about the real meaning of Christmas as she gets older as well as that it's also about giving back-especially to those in need)
