It's the little things I love best about planning and hosting a party. Maybe people don't notice but I just love making things extra special. Pinterest has been great with giving me lots of ideas-how did people plan parties before?! I already posted some pictures of Lilly's party but I thought it would be fun to share some of the little details and projects that brought the party together. The theme was: Pink Owl. Since owls are all the rage right now it was super easy to find decor. Having Easter right around the corner was a nice bonus for candy selection (Cadbury eggs as "owl" eggs) and I was able to keep the decor light and springy by using items that are in the store right now without having to special order anything or having to do much DIY.
Last week I shared how I kept myself organized leading up to the big bash. It was so fun bringing my vision together! I kept it simple and it worked! The first thing I did was plan her outfit and I immediately went to ETSY. I found this adorable custom shirt months ago and it was soooo adorable I just had to get it! Lilly looked pretty cute in it too although it was almost impossible to get her to sit still for a good shot!
The official down and dirty party prep started Thursday night and lasted until Saturday morning. It all came together great. The menu included: Taco dip, hummus with carrots and pretzels, a fruit platter, and other snacks.
My beautiful sister enjoying some of the starters-she was at my house last Friday and early Saturday helping and it wouldn't have come together as smoothly (or without a major freak out from me) without her!
For the main course we had apple salad, ham, lasagna, mac and cheese, and chick fil a nuggets.
We really planned the food well and barely had any leftovers so we were happy about that! Just enough for lunches and dinners this week! Dessert is always my favorite and i tend to go overboard. We had a good variety and there were a few items that were a huge hit! We had "owls nests" macaroons, Knock you Naked brownies, Owl cupcakes, Chocolate buttons, and my moms pound cake. 4 of 5 of those items were found via pinterest.
Here are a few detail shots of the desserts:
As for the decor, I tried keeping it simple. We did balloons, some items from the Dollar Tree, and a few knick knacks I picked up at Target and Michaels that we used for the party but are now being displayed in our house! Like our white owl and the white owl vase! Fresh spring flowers from Wegmans also completed our spring look!
We had to have a picture collage on display and this year I also kept it simple. I had orginally ordered a collage I created on snapfish but it arrived too late-so I used this picture collage I had made for Lilly as a back up to display on the favor table.
I had a hard time coming up with 'owl' themed favors but when i found these chevron print take out boxes I had to have them (slight chevron obession here) and I decided just to fill them with a few treats. I made gift tags that turned out cute to tie on to them:
Inside you could find: bubbles, tootsie pops, 'owl egg' sidewalk chalk, a punch balloon, and other spring colored candy.
I know you don't care about what drinks we served but I have to share that I was super pumped to find juice boxes with owls on them! It's probably the only reason I bought them and luckily that aren't too crazy sugery because we have a lot left over for Lilly to enjoy in the next coming months (Thank you BJ's Wholesale).
Overall I was so happy with how everything turned out-but more than that I was happy Lilly enjoyed her party-even if she doesn't remember the little details!
