It has almost been 2 weeks since Tommy was born. Time is already speeding by faster this time around. I am sure it's because we are even busier now with two! Last week, Lilly went to daycare so I could take some time to rest more and adjust while Tommy went back to work. Today was my first day alone with both Tommy and Lilly. I don't want to jinx myself but it went well! The were some moments but I have to say I am pretty proud of my Lilly.
This weekend she developed a new interest in going potty. She even went in Target on Sunday when we ran some errands. Our pediatrician had told us not to force anything with the new baby coming as we didn't want to push too much change for Lilly. She basically just told us to let her tell us when she's ready. When she told me no more diapers Sunday I was excited for her but also worried about how it all would pan out being the first week we are home, just the three of us. I love me a good challenge.
I was picturing a disaster. Having to clean up floors and couches. But that little bugger proved me wrong. She wore underwear all day with the exception of nap time and was dry all day! We Had her potty chair downstairs and she went without me having to ask. I did make her try before nap and before going outside and both times she went without hesitation. Crazy. Lets hope since this week we are laying low she will officially be trained by the weekend! I am still worried about being in public and running with her and a baby to the restroom but we did get her pull-ups for outings before she gets it down.
So aside from potty training the day went well. Lilly listened really well and I made a point to play and interact with her when Tommy was sleeping. She had a minor meltdown in the am about her snack but aside from that she listened and even helped! She really wanted to go outside so I busted out the front carrier. It has a buckle in the back that I could not get myself so lucky me I have a toddler who loves buckles and is a pro at them. I bent down and asked her to buckle it for me and she did no problem. She even said: "There you go mommy! ".
Lilly had a good nap and while she woke up a bear she got back into the swing of things and we were able to get dinner together and wait for daddy to get home!
Some things that worked today:
I woke up same time as I do everyday to shower before Tommy to shower. We kept our morning routine pretty similar to usual for Lilly so she doesn't get out of wack. We were all dressed and heading downstairs shortly before 7.
I prepped dinner during lunch and nap time. This worked great. We had bubble pizza tonight so all I had to do was pop it in the oven right before Tommy got home.
I made sure to make time for Lilly and show her that she was important too. I had read some advice that instead of dropping everything when the baby cries and run to them, often leaving our other child behind, that if you are doing something with your oldest and the baby cries to say to the baby- hold on I am helping your sister! I didn't leave Tommy crying long but it happened once when I was getting Lilly shoes on. When I told Tommy to hold on I was finishing with sister she looked at me a laughed. She got it!
I know I am going to have to plan and do more to stimulate Lilly each day but this was a good start. We have a play date with Angela and Amie tomorrow so that will be fun and hopefully tire her out a bit more for a longer nap.
As we took a family walk this evening I just stared at my family. Lilly on daddy's shoulders and Tommy in the stroller. No matter what our days are like, good or bad, this picture will always make me happy!
Now I am lounging on the couch while Tommy and Tommy have snuggle time and Lilly is in bed. I am beat and ready for bed but I wouldn't trade this for anything!

What a great idea to tell the baby to wait a minute, I'll have to remember that with Kieran because I know he's going to be super jealous.
