Lillian's first week

I should have posted this Friday but as a mom your plans tend to revolve around the little one and squeezing in naps.  This past Friday, Lillian was one week old.  Time is already flying by!!! Maybe it was the hospital stay that threw us off but man a week went by SO fast.   I just kept looking at her thinking that a week ago we were at the hospital meeting her for the first time and here we were a week later and I cannot believe the changes already in her. Lillian certainly had a busy first week of life!  We're looking forward to many many more to come!

We left the hospital around 1pm on Tuesday, March 29th-Lillian was 4 days old.  I was excited to get home since I was so over the hospital but also nervous at the same time.  The nurses at GBMC were wonderful with answering all of our new parent questions.  No amount of babysitting experience prepares you for taking care of and raising a new born!  We were now officially on our own-YIKES!  But we were also really excited to bring Lillian home.  Here are a few shots of us leaving the hospital:
Her first day at home was exciting!  She loved her car seat and slept the entire way home.
We even made a pit stop at Walmart to pick up some things (we waited in the car of course) and she was an angel the whole time.  Lilly even had her first trip through the McDonald's drive through-Mommy and Daddy were hungry!

Lillian Grace is HOME!!!!  We just couldn't get over how well she was adjusting and she slept and ate all day and afternoon when got home.  Tommy and I made the mistake of catching up on the DVR instead of taking the chance to catch up on sleep and boy did we regret that.  Not sure if it was her new surroundings or that she had her days and nights mixed up or what but actually I shouldn't have been surprised because 3/4pm was party time when she was in my belly so really she's just doing what she knows best.  Basically she was up all night.  Not screaming or crying or anything- just awake and wanted to be held and cuddled or eat.  Every time we put her down and turned off the light we heard her little whimper.  I tried feeding her, changing her, and rocking her but she just didn't want to sleep!  We got maybe one hour of sleep tops-Awesome.  Luckily Tommy had taken an extra day off so he didn't have to get up and go into work the next morning.  Welcome to parenthood Kelly and Tommy.

Still up at 7am on Wednesday morning, I just decided to get up and shower and get ready for the day-we had a big day ahead of us.  In the morning we had Lilly's first doctors appointment.  I was running on that mommy adrenaline so even though I was super tired, I was awake and able to function-it was a miracle!   Lillian did so well at the doctors despite having parents that were sleep deprived.  She was closer to her birth weight so she was making progress and that means that she was getting enough to eat!  That was such a source of paranoia for me- that I wasn't providing her with what she needed but the proof was on the scale and while she was down to 7lbs 14 oz when she left the hospital (birth weight was 8lbs 4 oz) she was up to 8lbs 1oz so she is getting there.  Lilly left Dr. Minton's office with a clean bill of health.  Dr. Minton was also very patient with our new parent questions!  It's amazing how every little thing makes you worry even though it's completely normal.

We got home in time to catch a quick nap and then we had to get ready for Lilly's newborn photo session with Jewell from the Lovely Photo.  The shoot went so well and Lilly was an angel the whole time!!!  I am so excited to see the pictures and Jewell was kind enough to post a sneak peak of her shoot for us and OH MY how freakin' cute are they.  Click here to see the sneak peak.   We will have our viewing session this coming Friday and we cannot wait to see them!!  It's going to be hard to choose our favorites.

After the busy day we had- we were pretty spent and luckily my mom came to the rescue and stopped over to make us dinner.  I don't know if it was the lack of home made food (we had been surviving on hospital and fast food the past few days) or what but it was the best meal ever!  Honestly my mom could have fried up dog poop and I would have scarfed it down.  It was then I realized how much breast feeding takes out of you.  I ate like it was my first meal.  My mom made Italian Chicken with Rice and it was soooo good! Thanks Mom!!!

Wednesday night I decided to stay downstairs with Lilly in case she had a repeat of her first night.  Tommy really needed a good nights sleep since he had to go into work the next day so I camped out on the couch.  I have to say Lilly did so much better.  She was up to eat and I slept while she slept and while she did get up a few times wanting to party- I was able to actually get some sleep and so did Tommy-he was a new person the next morning and I was so glad he was able to get some sleep.  After all-I had the chance to nap during the day when Lilly slept so I couldn't complain!

Thursday was a low key day and I needed it.  It was just Lilly and I and we both ate and slept all day.  Lovely!  Again we had a meal made for us-Tacos made by Tommy's parents.  again-YUM!  Food tastes a lot better when you don't have to cook it OR clean up after!  Tommy and I couldn't be luckier to have such wonderful parents to help us out.  Honestly it's the BEST kind of help because then Tommy and I can focus on Lilly and relaxing and not cleaning or cooking.  It's wonderful!  Thanks Mom and Dad (Reese and Smith).

And so that brings us to Friday-FRIDAY already.  One week ago we Friday we were heading to the hospital to meet our little Lilly-pad and now here we were one week later.  I cannot believe it.  It was such an exciting week and while we are running on little sleep, we are so happy to finally have our little one here with us-it is all worth it!  We just cannot stop looking at her and snuggling her and loving her-I cannot stand it!  :)

Here is Lillian one week from the day she was born.  Happy one week Lilly Grace!

This is her Blue Steel:
