The second time around: My hospital bag

With Lilly I followed the (excessive) packing list from The Bump for things you need to bring to the hospital.  Most of it was a waste-I barely even opened my hospital bag.  For the most part you really could just show up to the hospital with the carseat and maybe a change of clothes and you will be JUST fine.  They generally have everything you could possibly need there.  I won't be doing that becuase there are a few things I would LIKE to have with me but this time around I am making my own list.  In light of the little scare I had this past week I am definitely now packing my bag-just to have handy!
What I didn't need the first time around:

Insurance info:  I don't even think I once needed my insurance info-you provide that stuff when you pre-register at the hospital.  These things are always in my wallet though which I will be bringing with me but I am not going to sweat it if I forget either.  Now days everything can be accessed on line too so it's really not that big of a deal.

A robe: bulky, takes up speace, and never worn!  Instead I used an open front cardigan which can in handy to paired with a nursing tank.  Since this time around it will be warmer I bought a lighter one.  They are great when nursing in front of visitors since you can cover up more.

Pen and paper:  pretty sure you can get this at the hospital.  I brought a pad and pen and never used it.

Maternity underwear:  Hanes her way granny panties are all that's needed.  I bought a size bigger

Hairdryer, straightner, styling products:  Unless you are Theresa Guidice pretty sure you don't need these things.  I was in pony tails the entire time.  Most hospitals will at least have hairdryers-you can always ask if you really need one.

Breast pump:  They had one there and I didn't use it.  Did not need my own.

Multiple outfits for the baby:  All Lilly wore were diapers and the 'robes' the hospital provided and she was always swaddled.

Lots of extra clothes:  I had this idea that I would be dressing daily in the hospital.  Ha!  I could barely walk let alone bother with that-and I was there for 5 days!

Lanisol/pads: the hospital gives you them-score!  PLUS I needed the giant diapers at the hospital.

My purse:  What could I possibly need with that-it's staying home.

Full size toiletries:  NOT needed-totally regretted this!

Snacks and food-seriously people brought us a lot of this stuff and we ended up not touching what we brought.

What I plan to pack this time around:

For baby:
coming home outfit
car seat
blanket for the car ride

extra small bag to stash diapers and wipes from the hospital and any 'treats' people bring us.

For me:
1 pr-leggings (that are not low rise-I will have stiches!)
1-nursing tank and 1 nursing sleep bra
1- lightweight cardigan
going home outfit (will be what I wore to the hospital too since I change right away to prep for surgery so will be wearing it only a few hours-probably leggings, tank, and cardigan)
trial size toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and body wash and toothpaste)
ponds moist wipes (since I really won't be getting up to wash my face at the sink)
toothbrush, deodorant
hair ties and hairspray (trial size)
make-up-not necessary but I want it-more than likely I will just toss BB cream, mascara, and lipgloss in with my toiletries
Granny panties-a size up for comfort and ones that can be tossed after
slippers (with soles)

For Tommy:
change of clothes
maybe some trial size toiletries
Other:
wallet
camera/cell/chargers
MAYBE the I pad
Pillow for Tommy and I
The Boppy

I guess it still seems like a good amount of stuff but I brought that PLUS everything I listed that I didn't need above and then some.  This time around I am definitely going lighter-and if I really need something..we are close to Target, the mall, and I can always send Tommy out!

cute shoes and luggage but I cannot claim.  Photo from: http://www.entertaininglife.com/2011/04/the-ultimate-travel-pack-list/

  1. We had the hospital tour like 36 hours before I went into labor so we were psyched to learn they had DVD players in every room. while I was having contractions at home I kept yelling for Tyrone to get GOOD movies.
we watched Friday in the hospital. the nurses kept trying to get my vitals but kept cracking up.
